Facing the Plaza Independencia, this ornate nineteenth-century building served for decades as the seat of Uruguay's executive branch before the government moved to a modern tower. Its eclectic facade with a rounded corner and mansard roof reflects the fashionable French taste of the era. Now used for ceremonial functions, the palace preserves historic offices and reception rooms open to visitors. It stands among the grand structures ringing the capital's central square and remains a symbol of the country's institutional history.
