This large landscaped park in eastern Caracas is one of the most visited green spaces in the capital, designed by Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. Opened in 1961, it features curving lakes, tropical plantings, walking circuits, a small zoo area and a planetarium. Families come to jog, boat and picnic among the sweeping lawns and native trees. Its design is regarded as an important example of modern tropical landscape architecture, and it provides a broad recreational counterweight to the dense surrounding neighbourhoods.
