The Museum of Fine Arts of Caracas is the country's oldest art museum, founded in 1917 and housed in a modernist building designed by architect Carlos Raúl Villanueva near Parque Los Caobos. Its collections span Venezuelan and international painting, sculpture, drawing and Egyptian and Asian pieces, alongside rotating exhibitions. The rational, light-filled architecture is itself significant in Venezuelan modernism. With neighbouring galleries, it anchors the visual arts scene in the capital.
