The seat of Puerto Rico's legislature, a white marble neoclassical building completed in the 1920s on the isthmus linking the old city to the modern capital. Its great rotunda, decorated with mosaics depicting the island's history, shelters a copy of the constitution. Corinthian columns, a grand staircase and bronze doors give the building a monumental civic presence overlooking the Atlantic. Guided visits explain the workings of the island's government, and the surrounding grounds hold monuments to political and cultural figures.
