A landscaped public park in the New Kingston business district, opened in 2002 to commemorate the abolition of slavery. Its entrance is marked by a large bronze sculpture of a man and woman gazing skyward, a striking and much-discussed monument to emancipation. Paved paths wind past fountains, gardens and quotations from national figures, and the park hosts concerts and morning exercise groups. As a green oasis amid the city's commercial towers, it serves as both a memorial and a well-used recreational space for residents.
