A vast civic space that has hosted mass political gatherings addressed by generations of national leaders. It is overlooked by the José Martí Memorial, a soaring star-shaped tower of grey marble with an observation deck and a museum in its base. Facing the tower, government ministries carry giant steel outlines of revolutionary figures on their facades, images familiar from countless photographs.
