This neo-Gothic church, begun in the 1890s and completed only in the 1970s, is considered one of the finest examples of the style in Mexico. Its pointed spires, pinnacles and rose window rise dramatically over a plaza near the university district of Guadalajara. A German-made carillon in the main tower marks the hours with a procession of figures representing the apostles. Inside, tall stained-glass windows and slender columns create a soaring, luminous space that contrasts with the baroque churches of the older centre.
