This circular monument in the heart of Guadalajara honours the state of Jalisco's most distinguished figures, whose remains rest beneath a ring of tall fluted columns. Bronze statues of writers, painters, musicians and statesmen encircle a shaded plaza planted with trees, forming a quiet civic pantheon between the cathedral and the government palace. Created in the mid-twentieth century, it has since gathered more honourees, each commemorated with a sculpture along its perimeter. It sits within the chain of squares that frame the colonial core.
