One of the largest green spaces in the eastern part of the capital, this wooded park was created in the mid-twentieth century on former lakebed land to give the growing city more recreation space. Winding paths lead past a boating lake, sports fields and shaded picnic areas popular with families on weekends. The park adjoins a zoo and offers a welcome expanse of trees in a densely built district. Its scale and mature canopy make it an important lung for neighbourhoods that have few other parks nearby.
