Facing the historic plaza, this Santa Fe museum occupies a 1917 building that helped define the Pueblo Revival architectural style, with massive earthen walls, projecting roof beams, and a shaded interior courtyard. Its collection concentrates on the artists of New Mexico, including the early Santa Fe and Taos art colonies, alongside contemporary Southwestern work. The auditorium features hand-painted murals and carved woodwork. As one of the state's oldest art institutions, it drew painters to the desert light.
