This vast government complex in downtown Albany, built between the 1960s and 1970s under Governor Nelson Rockefeller, is a monumental example of mid-century modernist civic planning. A long reflecting pool runs between severe white marble office towers, agency buildings, and a curved performance hall nicknamed The Egg. The plaza doubles as a public art gallery, displaying one of the largest collections of modern American abstract art in any government setting.
