A small museum at the V&A Waterfront devoted to the history of diamonds in southern Africa and their transformation from rough stone to cut gem. Exhibits trace the great diamond rushes at Kimberley, the geology of diamond formation, and the tools and techniques of cutting and polishing. Replicas of famous stones and displays on the industry's economic and social impact round out the collection. The compact museum offers context for the region that produced some of the world's most celebrated gems.
