An imposing civic building completed in 1935 in a blend of classical and art deco styles, fronted by a tall clock tower and a carillon of bells. Statues of the city's founders and Boer leaders stand in the square before it, alongside a fossil-bearing dinosaur monument added later. The hall has hosted concerts, ceremonies and municipal functions for generations. Its symmetrical facade of columns and pediments faces landscaped gardens, making it a prominent landmark in the government district of the capital.
