A lavishly decorated Victorian mansion built in 1886 for the transport contractor George Heys, this house museum is one of the best-preserved examples of period domestic architecture in the country. Its ornate rooms retain original furnishings, stained glass, painted ceilings and a mosaic-floored conservatory. In 1902 the house served as British headquarters and was where the Treaty of Vereeniging, ending the Second Boer War, was signed. Set behind an iron fence in a small garden, it now operates as a cultural museum open to the public.
