This striking mosque stands near the confluence of the Blue and White Niles in Omdurman, its name meaning the mosque of the two Niles. Notable for its unconventional modern design, the building rises in a stepped, shell-like form ringed by spiralling galleries rather than the traditional rectangular hall. Its distinctive silhouette makes it one of the most recognisable religious buildings in the Khartoum conurbation. The mosque draws worshippers to a scenic riverside setting overlooking the meeting of the two great rivers.
