This colourful Hindu temple in central Kampala serves the capital's South Asian community, whose presence in Uganda dates from the railway era of the late nineteenth century. Its ornate facade, shrines and festival celebrations add a distinctive strand to the city's religious landscape. The temple endured the mass expulsion of Asians in the 1970s and the community's later return. Located amid the downtown bustle, it stands as a reminder of Uganda's multicultural history and remains an active centre of worship, ceremony and cultural festivals.
