Home to the National Theatre, this centre in central Kampala is the country's leading venue for drama, music and dance and a hub of Ugandan performing arts. Established in the early 1960s around independence, it hosts productions, craft markets and a well-known open-air spot for live music. The complex has nurtured generations of actors, playwrights and musicians. Its craft village stalls sell woodwork, textiles and paintings. Situated near the city centre, it blends professional stagecraft with informal cultural gatherings throughout the week.
