One of Kampala's oldest and busiest markets, this sprawling downtown bazaar occupies a slope below Nakasero hill and trades in fresh produce, fish, meat, spices and household goods. Narrow lanes crowd with vendors, porters and shoppers throughout the day. The market has served the capital for over a century and reflects the city's dense commercial energy. Higher up the hill lie government buildings and diplomatic residences, giving the area a mix of trade and administration. It offers an unvarnished glimpse of everyday urban life.
