Anfa is a historic hilltop district of Casablanca and the site of the original settlement that predated the modern city, its name once serving as the town's designation before the Portuguese and later rebuilding. Today it is an affluent residential quarter of villas, gardens and wide avenues overlooking the Atlantic. Anfa is remembered internationally for the 1943 Casablanca Conference, when Allied leaders met at a hotel here during the Second World War. Its ancient origins and wartime history give it a layered character.
