Cairo Puppet Theatre

Located in the Ataba area near the center of the city, this theatre has staged marionette and puppet performances for families since the mid-twentieth century and is among the oldest institutions of its kind in the Arab world. Its productions draw on folk tales, historical episodes and comic characters familiar to generations of Egyptian children. Housed in a distinctive building, the theatre keeps alive a form of popular entertainment with deep roots in the region.
