Adjoining the main railway station in the Ramses district, this museum celebrates Egypt's pioneering role as one of the earliest countries outside Europe to build railways. Its halls contain historic locomotives, royal carriages, scale models, signaling equipment and documents tracing the growth of the national network from the mid-nineteenth century. A highlight is the ornate saloon car used by members of the royal family. The collection appeals to enthusiasts and families alike, giving a technical counterpoint to the city's ancient sites.
