Ghumdan Palace was a legendary many-storeyed fortress-palace of pre-Islamic Sana'a, described in early Arabic sources as a towering structure of coloured stone with a translucent alabaster roof. Attributed to the ancient Himyarite or Sabaean rulers, it stood near the site of the later Great Mosque and became a symbol of the antiquity and grandeur of the Yemeni capital. Though the building itself has long vanished, its foundations and memory remain woven into the city. Visitors exploring old Sana'a can view its associated area.
