Suq al-Milh is the great historic market of old Sana'a, a warren of narrow lanes just inside the main city gate whose name means the salt market though it long ago grew to embrace every trade. Separate alleys specialize in silver, spices, raisins, copperware, textiles, and the curved daggers that mark Yemeni dress. The market has functioned continuously for centuries at the heart of the walled city. Visitors can wander between the stalls, watch craftsmen at work in small workshops, and experience its daily commercial life.
