The largest mosque in Kuwait, standing near the seafront in the capital and serving as the state's principal congregational mosque. Built with a large central dome and a tall minaret in a style drawing on Andalusian and Islamic traditions, it can hold many thousands of worshippers. The interior is decorated with calligraphy, chandeliers and patterned marble, and a great courtyard opens beside the prayer hall. Used for major national and religious occasions, it is a central landmark of Kuwait City's civic and religious life.
