A striking public building in Ashgabat used for civil marriage ceremonies, instantly recognisable for the enormous multi-pointed star that encloses a golden globe at its summit. Rising in tiered marble stages, it combines a modern monumental style with traditional star motifs. The upper sphere houses ceremonial halls with panoramic windows over the city. Its unusual form makes it one of the most photographed of the capital's many extravagant white-marble structures.
