The old lighthouse in the Farol district of Dili is a slender colonial-era tower that once guided ships into the harbour of the capital. The surrounding neighbourhood, which takes its name from the Portuguese word for lighthouse, contains some of the city's older administrative and residential buildings. Standing near the waterfront, the tower is a modest but enduring maritime landmark reflecting the port's long history. Its coastal setting offers views over the bay and the fishing boats that still work the nearby waters.
