The Cathedral of the Good Shepherd is the oldest Roman Catholic church in Singapore and the seat of its archdiocese, built in the 1840s in a restrained neoclassical style. Its whitewashed facade, columned portico, and slender bell tower recall European churches of the period, adapted to the tropical setting. After extensive restoration it reopened with its historic interior, timber ceiling, and original bells preserved. A gazetted national monument, it traces the city's colonial religious history in the museum precinct.
