This ornate Chinese assembly hall and temple in the Cholon district was established by immigrants from a southern Chinese community as both a place of worship and a centre for mutual support. Dedicated largely to a revered guardian deity, it is richly decorated with gilded carvings, intricate roof figurines and a famous life-sized statue of a legendary red horse to which visitors make offerings. The atmospheric, incense-filled halls make it one of the finest congregation temples in Cholon.
