Kaiser Mahal is a Rana-era palace beside Thamel that houses the Kaiser Library, a distinctive private collection gifted to the state. The building blends European neoclassical detailing with local craftsmanship, its rooms lined with dark wood shelves, mounted trophies, portraits and antique furniture. The adjoining Garden of Dreams draws most visitors, but the mansion rewards those who step inside to browse rare volumes and period interiors. It offers an intimate look at the cosmopolitan tastes of Nepal's early twentieth-century aristocracy.
