This sprawling ground in the north of the city was the setting for the great imperial assemblies, or durbars, staged under British rule, including the 1911 gathering where the transfer of the capital to Delhi was announced. A tall central obelisk marks the site, and around it stand relocated statues of colonial-era figures, including a towering figure of King George V removed from near India Gate. Long neglected, the park has been partly landscaped to present these displaced monuments as a record of the imperial period.
