A red-brick colonial consulate perched on a bluff above the entrance to Kaohsiung harbour, built in the 1870s after the port opened to foreign trade. Its arcaded verandas and the hillside residence above are among the oldest surviving Western buildings in Taiwan, connected by a restored stone stair up the wooded slope. The site commands sweeping views over the harbour mouth, Cijin Island, and the passing ships. Now a heritage museum, it interprets the treaty-port era and the brief presence of British diplomats at Takao.
