A historic temple in the old quarter of Tainan honouring the goddess Mazu, distinguished by centuries of imperial patronage and a wealth of antique religious art. Built on the site of a former princely mansion, it preserves rare Qing-dynasty carvings, inscribed plaques bestowed by emperors, and elaborately painted door guardians. Devotees come to consult the goddess on matters of fortune and to view its treasured statuary. The temple sits amid a dense network of heritage lanes filled with traditional snack vendors and craft workshops.
