The Kanazawa Noh Museum is dedicated to the classical masked theatre that has flourished in the city for centuries under the patronage of its former ruling clan. Kanazawa developed a distinctive local school of the art, and the museum displays the elaborate costumes, carved masks, and stage properties used in performances, some of great age and craftsmanship. Visitors can try on replicas and, on occasion, watch demonstrations. Near the cultural quarter, it introduces an art form hard for newcomers to approach and explains its roots.
