The D. T. Suzuki Museum honors the Kanazawa-born scholar who did more than anyone to introduce Zen Buddhism to the Western world in the twentieth century. Designed by a noted architect, the museum is itself an exercise in contemplation, a spare arrangement of low buildings and corridors leading to a shallow water mirror garden. Ripples periodically cross the still pool beside a meditation pavilion, encouraging visitors to slow down. Exhibits are modest, and the minimalist architecture and water court are the true attraction.
