This domed neo-baroque hall in the grounds of the national museum in Ueno Park was built in the early twentieth century to commemorate a royal wedding and is a designated important cultural property in its own right. Designed by a leading court architect, its symmetrical stone facade and central copper dome represent the confident Western-influenced public architecture of the late Meiji era. No longer used for permanent displays, it opens for special exhibitions, and its ornate staircases and interior make the building itself an attraction.
