A low-rise residential neighborhood in Taito ward that survived the Second World War largely intact and retains a townscape of wooden shophouses, temple cemeteries, and narrow lanes that reflects pre-modern Tokyo's character. The Yanaka Ginza shopping street connects the district's main cemetery to the Nezu neighborhood, passing art galleries, tofu shops, and traditional craft stores. The area's unhurried pace and low commercial density distinguish it from Tokyo's more developed tourist districts.
