This large tract of preserved woodland in the Shirokane district is a research reserve where nature is allowed to grow with minimal management, offering a glimpse of the wild forest that once covered the region. Once a feudal estate and later imperial land, it retains ancient earthworks, ponds, and marshes among towering old trees, and admission is capped to protect the fragile habitat. Boardwalks lead through habitats rich in birds and insects, providing a striking contrast to the surrounding city for naturalists and photographers.
