The city's principal museum of postwar and contemporary art occupies a large, angular building beside a park in the eastern Kiyosumi district. Opened in the mid-1990s, it holds a substantial collection spanning painting, sculpture, design, and installation from the 1950s onward, and stages ambitious special exhibitions in cavernous, high-ceilinged galleries. Its art library and outdoor sculptures round out a visit, and the surrounding neighborhood of converted warehouses, cafes, and small galleries has grown into an engaging art walk.
