Dedicated to the deity of scholarship, this eastern Tokyo shrine is famous for its high, steeply arched drum bridge crossing a turtle-filled pond, a composition immortalized in classic woodblock prints. Founded in the seventeenth century, it draws students seeking exam success and celebrates two great floral seasons: plum blossoms in late winter and cascading wisteria trellises in spring, when an evening-lit festival turns the pond violet. The broadcasting tower rises behind the trellises, joining the traditional shrine to the skyline.
