Lining both banks of the Sumida River near Asakusa, this park is one of the capital's classic cherry blossom promenades, its rows of trees originally planted in the era of the shoguns to give ordinary citizens a place to enjoy the spring bloom. In summer it hosts a spectacular fireworks display descended from festivals held here for centuries. From its riverside paths, visitors gain sweeping views of the tall broadcasting tower across the water, and pleasure boats pass beneath a series of distinctively painted bridges.
