A range of forested hills on the northern edge of Guangzhou long celebrated as a scenic retreat, its name meaning white cloud after the mists that wreath the summits. Rising a little over three hundred metres, it offers the closest natural escape from the dense city, with walking trails, temples, gardens and a cable car climbing to viewpoints over the metropolis. The Moxing Ridge marks the highest point, once counted among the city's classic sights. Visitors hike wooded paths, visit a large aviary and watch the skyline emerge below at dusk.
