An ancient Buddhist temple in old Guangzhou whose origins reach back roughly fifteen centuries, celebrated for its soaring Flower Pagoda. The octagonal tower appears to have nine storeys from outside but conceals additional interior levels, its brightly painted eaves rising above the surrounding lanes. The temple gained its poetic name from a Song poet who admired six banyan trees once in the courtyard. Within stand large bronze Buddhas. Visitors climb the pagoda's narrow stairs for rooftop views and wander the prayer halls below.
