This cable railway climbs the Aleksotas hill on the south bank of the Nemunas River opposite the old town of Kaunas. Opened in the 1930s, it carries passengers in vintage carriages up the steep slope to a viewing terrace that overlooks the confluence of the rivers and the historic centre across the water. As one of two surviving funiculars in the city, it is prized as a working relic of the interwar period. The panorama from the top ranks among the finest urban views in Lithuania.
