This early Baroque church near the town hall is dedicated to the patron saint of Lithuania and was the first church built by the Jesuits in the city. Begun in the early seventeenth century, its dome is crowned by an ornate representation of the grand ducal crown. The building has served many roles over the centuries, including a period as a museum of atheism under Soviet rule, before returning to worship. Its restrained facade and prominent cupola make it a distinctive part of the old town skyline.
