This branch of the Estonian History Museum occupies a nineteenth-century seaside manor built for a Russian industrialist east of the city centre. Its exhibitions cover the twentieth century, from independence and occupation to the restoration of statehood, using film, photographs and objects. The grounds hold a striking field of discarded Soviet monuments and a memorial to the victims of communism. The palace overlooks the sea, and its landscaped park links to walking routes toward the nearby Pirita district and its beaches.
