Rising over three hundred metres on the city's northeastern edge, this broadcasting tower is the tallest structure in Estonia and a symbol of the late Soviet era. Opened in 1980 for the Moscow Olympics sailing regatta, it played a role in the events of 1991 when defenders held it against advancing troops. A high-speed lift carries visitors to an observation deck with sweeping views over the coast, forests and the Gulf of Finland. Glass floor panels and an edge walk add drama for those who venture out.
