Standing in the old Ottoman quarter of Stara Varoš, this stone clock tower dates from around the 17th to 18th century and is one of the few surviving monuments of the town's Ottoman period. Rising above the low houses and narrow lanes of the historic district, it once regulated the daily rhythms of the market and prayer times. The square structure narrows toward a small belfry that houses the clock mechanism. Restored and floodlit at night, it remains a treasured emblem of the older, pre-modern layer of the Montenegrin capital.
