Millennium Bridge, Podgorica

Spanning the Morača River in the centre of Podgorica, this cable-stayed bridge opened in 2005 and has become one of the defining images of the modern Montenegrin capital. A single inclined pylon rises above the deck, from which steel cables fan out to support the roadway carrying vehicles and pedestrians across the river. Illuminated at night, its sweeping lines contrast with the surrounding cityscape. The structure links the older and newer parts of the city and is often photographed as a symbol of Montenegro's post-independence development.
