Nebet Tepe crowns one of Plovdiv's ancient hills and preserves the oldest fortified settlement on the site, occupied since Thracian times more than five thousand years ago. Massive stone walls, cisterns, and foundations from successive Thracian, Greek, Roman, and medieval periods layer the summit. From the ruins visitors gain a sweeping panorama over the old town's tiled roofs and the surrounding plain. As the acropolis of ancient Philippopolis, the hill marks the origin of the city.
