Dzhumaya Mosque is the principal Ottoman monument of Plovdiv, standing beside the Roman stadium in the city's pedestrian centre. Dating in its main form to the fifteenth century, it is one of the oldest surviving mosques in the Balkans, with a large lead-covered roof of multiple domes and a tall minaret. Painted floral decoration covers the interior walls and mihrab, and the prayer hall remains in active use. A traditional coffee house occupies part of the building, adding to the lively atmosphere around this historic square.
